What did I do this week?
This week, I was not able to engage with my research as much as I would have liked. Between kids, work, and our household getting a cold, there wasn’t much time left for family history. But I still managed to accomplish a few things.
The Audit
I have continued with the big audit… even though my squirrelly brain is screaming “I’m bored, let's chase something shiny” - I’ve stuck to my guns, and kept going. I’ve fully fleshed out my great-grandfather, Louis Gleason Morrow’s life, and I am now in the process of copying all that information over into a Word document I can print for my physical file.

I worked quite intensely on my 4x great-grandfather, Preston B Morrow, and I had to face some uncomfortable truths. He was a slaveowner, and while I have never taken on personal guilt from the fact that I have ancestors who were involved in slavery, there were newspaper articles I came across that unsettled me on a human level.
It seems he was in the business of purchasing slaves and then hiring them out to other people for a profit. This included children—which was the most upsetting article.
There were a few other instances that I have recorded on my Ancestry tree, which is publicly available if you are interested in reading more about him.
ProjectKin’s Migration Stories Series
I put my hand up to pilot a migration pathway for ProjectKins' new series. My focus is on Eastern and Central Europeans who immigrated at the end of the 19th - early 20th century to the industrialised northern USA. You can read more about the pathway and

As part of this, I also began examining all my immigrant ancestors, looking for themes in their stories (thanks to Jane Chapman’s inspirational post), and compiled them in table format. It's a work in progress, but I can already see threads connecting different
families together.

I am dipping my toe into the big, wide world of YouTube. I uploaded my very first video, which is all about identifying two young men in a photograph with only names written on the back. It was fun, frustrating and everything in between — but I am looking forward to
making another video soon!
